Category Manager

Department: Corporate
Location: Norton, MA

 

General Purpose of Position:

Support the management of all facets of vendor relationships as it pertains to assigned categories, support product line direction for assigned categories maximizing growth and profitability while supporting the AI Parts Principles.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Research, develop and maintain a network of suppliers to enhance and grow assigned categories in terms of breadth, quality, and profitability.
  • Prepare recommendations to Senior Product Manager for line direction and vendor selection.
  • Work collaboratively with replenishment and custom mix to insure high order fill and optimal inventory breadth.
  • Set up new vendor accounts to ensure accurate ordering, inventory and delivery tracking and payment
  • Negotiate contracts for supplied merchandise, ensuring cost-effective merchandising and payment strategies
  • Develop, prepare, distribute, issue and maintain approved vendor lists, sourcing strategies, terms and conditions, bilateral agreements, RFPs (Requests for Proposals), proposal evaluation criteria, supplier proposals, purchase orders.
  • Consistently evaluate supplier/vendor performance to ensure optimal success

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Associates degree or related work experience preferred
  • Automotive Aftermarket Experience in a sales or product management capacity
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Access; knowledge of JD Edwards software is a plus. Proficient with word processing, databases, spreadsheets and presentations.
  • Excellent organizational skills, independent thinking, and a high level of initiative are a necessity
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to lead problem resolution sessions with internal customers and suppliers
  • Ability to negotiate with vendors/service providers, including the ability to develop strategies and tactics, influence decisions, and assess/evaluate proposals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with all levels of an organization; ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Knowledge of Company and organizational policies, procedures, and practices as well as materials purchased, and local, state, federal laws and regulations
